Last Winter, we installed an AGV system to transport forklift frames from the Main Paint Line to the Main Assembly Line at Toyota Industrial Equipment in Columbus, IN. This project posed a number of challenges, including how to safely load and unload the heavy frame on and off the AGV, as well as routing traffic through shared lanes and across intersections.
The frame is manually loaded by crane onto the AGV, automatically aligned using a custom designed docking station that ensures correct frame position on the AGV every time.
The finished frames are transported by AGV to the main assembly line.
The AGVs queue at a buffer line before main assembly to be unloaded by the fork system we designed and built to interface with Toyota Industrial's slat conveyor.
The AGVs return back to Paint Line to queue for frame loading and repeat the process throughout production.
